Independent work

So, the new buzz word that has been floating around the educational community lately (at least around my campus) has been Universal Access. I have to have a block of time dedicated specifically to universal access...and when you have a VERY limited understanding of what exactly that is...it can be a bit daunting. So I sat down with my kinder team and asked to see some of the stuff they did for universal access time. A lot was phonics from their curriculum that I don't have so that wasn't much help, but a part of their UA time is dedicated to sight words. The worksheets they used for that made my little eyes light up!

I HAD to create something like these worksheets that I could use for my kids. Obviously we aren't working on sight words (unless you count I and a) so I used some of the prompts from their worksheets and made my very own alphabet independent work bundle that can be used during my UA time!

Modeled after some sight word pages from Kindergarten
With these pages the kids get to rainbow write the letter, then trace in pencil, they have to identify the specific letter in a "word search" grid and they need to cut out and glue the letters to the bottom. This gets the kids working all the fine motor we've been practicing and provides lots of exposure to the letter on that page! Developmentally, my kids are at the ability where they need very minimal different letters to look through, so our letter search grids only contain 2 letters, the upper and lower case of the focus letter, and X. I did this also because our kindergarten introduces their sight words in word search grids with x's as fillers. I'm getting my kids familiar with the procedures and expectations for the BEGINNING of kindergarten.

I'm hoping to introduce multiple letters in a letter search later in the year, but this is what I'm working with right now. For my kids it's appropriate.

This bundle is at my TPT store, so if any of you are interested in purchasing this please feel free to swing by my store. I hope some of you find it helpful!

Always remember: Any moment can be A Learning Moment!

Sincerely from TK,
Nichole
